The Budapest Opera House in Pest is as a richly adorned neo-Renaissance building where the statues of great contributors to Budapest's musical life, Ferenc Liszt and Ferenc Erkel, can be admired. There are statues of the Muses between the Corinthian columns, and a bit further than the main entrance is the vestibule which is adorned with figurative frescoes. The ceiling of the horseshoe-shaped three storey auditorium is decorated with paintings by Lotz, a renown Budapest artist. The inaugural concert was conducted in 1884 and today there are performances on an almost year round basis because of all the festivals that are held in the city, especially during the Summer Opera & Ballet Festival.
